Many minor illnesses and ailments can be diagnosed via phone or video conference with your healthcare provider. This “virtual” care method streamlines diagnoses and treatment plans while enabling patients to seek care from the comfort of their homes. But how does virtual urgent care work? We’ll explain when to seek out urgent care virtually, and how the process works through Xpress Wellness Urgent Care.
What is Virtual Urgent Care?
Urgent care addresses illnesses, injuries, or conditions that are not considered an emergency but are serious enough to seek out prompt medical treatment. Adults and children alike can participate in virtual urgent care visits for fast and convenient care. This type of care provides patients with an accessible mid-point between primary care and emergency room visits.
Some common reasons patients seek out urgent care include:
- Cold and flu symptoms
- Vomiting
- Rashes
- Pink eye
- Minor injuries
- Allergies
It’s important to note that virtual urgent care is not a replacement for emergency visits, and patients should seek in-person emergency care if severe symptoms are present. These symptoms include, but are not limited to:
- Shortness of breath
- Chest pain
- Loss of consciousness
- Deep lacerations
- Persistent fevers, or those over 104℉
- A temperature of 100.4℉ or higher in infants under 3 months of age
